The\u00a0beginning\u00a0point of Chardham\u00a0Yatra<\/strong>\u00a0is Yamunotri<\/strong>\u00a0which lies at an 3293 meters from the sea level, there is a good road till Barkot<\/strong>\u00a0and then up to\u00a0Janki\u00a0Chatti<\/strong>, from here one goes for\u00a06 km uphill\u00a0difficult trek to Yamunotri<\/strong>, this temple is closed during\u00a0the winters and the main idol of Maa Yamuna<\/strong> or Yamunotri<\/strong>\u00a0is\u00a0kept at Lord Shani\u00a0Dev temple<\/strong> at\u00a0Kharsali<\/strong>\u00a0 which lies at 2675 metres from the sea level , till the winter ends.\u00a0This place \u00a0is also known as Khushimath\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0is one kilometer from Janki<\/strong> Chatti<\/strong> across the River Yamuna<\/strong>.

Shani Dev Temple at Someshwar<\/strong><\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\u00a0The History and Story<\/strong>
\nYamuna,<\/strong>\u00a0The daughter of the Sun God (Surya<\/em>)<\/strong> and consciousness\u00a0Chhaya<\/em>\u00a0(the Shadow)\u00a0<\/strong>she has one sister\u00a0Sangya<\/strong>, brother Shani Dev,<\/strong>\u00a0Yamraj\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Gangotri<\/strong>\u00a0are also\u00a0called her cousin and sister. Every year in the first week of May\u00a0on\u00a0“Akshya Tritiya”,\u00a0<\/strong>Lord\u00a0Shani\u00a0Dev accompanies his sister\u00a0Yamuna<\/strong> to Yamunotri\u00a0and returns back to Kharsali<\/strong>\u00a0and again meets to bring her back on the “Bhai\u00a0Dooj”<\/strong> or “Yam<\/strong> Dwetiya” two days after dipawali <\/strong>it is also a day for Yamuna to meet her brother Yamraj<\/strong>.
\n\u00a0Architecture<\/strong>
\nWho built this temple here at Kharsali,<\/strong>\u00a0an inscription\u00a0on stone<\/strong>\u00a0on its wall could not be translated till now, locals believe it\u00a0is constructed by the Pandavas<\/strong>, looks more like\u00a0fort,\u00a0it is a stone and wooden four\u00a0story structure<\/strong>. The main structure is constructed in a way by using stones, wood\u00a0the Urad dal<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0or Vigna\u00a0mungo (<\/strong>botanical name Lens culinaris)<\/span><\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/em>\u00a0is used as a part of mortar to fix the stones together. It has faced the mighty earthquakes and floods with no damage to the building since immortal time. One can climb up through a narrow stairs, the main Bronze idol of Lord Shani Dev<\/strong> is kept here along with the Chaaya<\/strong>\u00a0(the Shadow<\/strong>), the Sangya<\/strong>\u00a0(the conciseness<\/strong>) and the Nag Devta<\/strong>, there are two urns<\/strong> one big and one small are\u00a0 kept and no one touches them because of any unforeseen danger to self or family, there is a belief\u00a0that these Urns<\/strong> change their position themselves on Purnima<\/strong>\u00a0(Full moon night) and Amawasya<\/strong>\u00a0(Dark night)\u00a0the Yamuna Idol<\/strong> is kept during the winters on the first floor.

The Wall Supports of the Temple<\/strong><\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\u00a0Importance<\/strong>
\nThe importance of this temple is that it is the oldest\u00a0temple of Lord Shani Dev<\/strong>,\u00a0he particularly treats the people bad who are habitual betrayals<\/strong>, Back stabbers<\/strong> or into unjust revenges<\/strong> in other words Lord Shani<\/strong> punishes the guilty ones, he is a trouble maker for bad but rewards the good people, any one affected with Shani Sadsati and Shani Dhaiya,\u00a0<\/strong>if performs pooja\u00a0here the bad effect of Sadsati<\/strong>\u00a0and Dhaiya<\/strong> is reduced, anyone if having a fear of Black Magic<\/strong> takes blessings from here is never attacked by its ill effects. Lord Shani Dev<\/strong>\u00a0rides on a black vulture, carrying arrow, sword and two daggers, always wears black cloths, he has a limp in his\u00a0one leg.

\u00a0Religious Beliefs & Practices<\/strong>
\nDuring\u00a0the months of July, August (Sawan\u00a0and Bhadon<\/strong>) a date is announced by the priest when a Pandava\u00a0Nritya\u00a0<\/strong>(dance) is performed by the special people in the courtyard\u00a0to please the Nag Devta\u00a0(Snake God)<\/strong>, this dance starts after midnight\u00a0witnessed by the locals from the surrounding\u00a0 villages, it is believed\u00a0that any one who performs fast on this day and recites the Mahamritunjay\u00a0Mantra<\/strong> is protected from having unnatural\u00a0death, this place is also believed to be place where the Nag Devta<\/strong> shows his presence once a year .
\nSignificance of this temple is that after having darshan and pooja\u00a0at Yamunotri\u00a0one must pay a respectful visit at this place to make the darshan as complete. One can have a beautiful panaromic view of river Yamuna, Janki Chatti and the snow capped Himalyan Mountain Range<\/strong>.
