{"id":1620,"date":"2016-04-04T10:30:21","date_gmt":"2016-04-04T05:00:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/promarktravels.com\/blog\/?p=1620"},"modified":"2016-04-04T10:30:21","modified_gmt":"2016-04-04T05:00:21","slug":"gangotri-the-sacred-mother-river","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/promarktravels.com\/blog\/2016\/04\/gangotri-the-sacred-mother-river\/","title":{"rendered":"Gangotri The Sacred Mother River"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Gangotri<\/strong> is situated at a height of 3100 meters in the <strong>great Himalayas<\/strong> , the origin of river<strong> Ma Ganga known as Bhagirathi<\/strong> here , it is the most important part of the<strong> Chardham\u00a0circuit\u00a0in Gharwal Himalayas<\/strong>, the <strong>actual source is Gaumukh in Gangotri glacier<\/strong> \u00a018 km up-stream at a height of 4120 meters about 30 km long and 2-4 km wide, it is fed by<strong> Raktvarn<\/strong> ,<strong> Chaturangi<\/strong> ,<strong> Kirti<\/strong> and<strong> Bhirghupanth tributary glaciers<\/strong> besides many other small ones .<br \/>\n<div style=\"width: 603px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.stillintransit.com\/blog\/Gaumukh.jpg?resize=593%2C445\" alt=\"\" width=\"593\" height=\"445\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\"><strong>Gaumukh the origin of Bhagirathi<\/strong><\/p><\/div><br \/>\nThe temple is on the right bank of the river, a White stone structure where the main idol of Ma Ganga is\u00a0installed, before praying the pilgrims take bath at the holy river and then visit the main temple, this river is given a<strong> status of mother and\u00a0Goddess\u00a0in the Hindu way of life<\/strong>, \u00a0temple opens on<strong> Akshya Tritya of Vikram Samvat of Hindu calender<\/strong> which falls somewhere around end April to first half of May every year the temple closes on the day of Depawali and the<strong> idol of Ma Ganga is\u00a0brought down and kept at Mukhba village near Harsil in the winters<\/strong>, the evening Aarti is very impressive and it is performed as a stately affair .<br \/>\nMa Ganga is known by many names in the Sanatan Scripts , <strong>Bhagavat Padi<\/strong> means coming out of Lotus feet of Bhagwan ( God), <strong>Tripathaga<\/strong>\u00a0, it is the only river which flows from all the three worlds <strong>Swarag<\/strong> ( Heavens), <strong>Prithvi<\/strong> (Earth) and<strong> Pataal<\/strong> ( The Hell) . While following King Bhagirath, Ganga was making lots of noise which angered the sage Jahnu who was in his meditation, he drank all the water of Ganga, the Devas requested the sage to release her , Sage Jahnu released Ganga from his ear and named <strong><span style=\"color: #000000\">Jahnavi<\/span><\/strong> ( Daughter of Jahnu)<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n<div style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm7.staticflickr.com\/6234\/6263178369_8e2c1f8d1c.jpg?resize=500%2C375\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\"><strong>Gangotri Temple<\/strong><\/p><\/div><br \/>\n<strong>Legend<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>The King Sagar who had 60,000 son,<\/strong> once organised the<strong> Ashwamegah yagna<\/strong> to proclaim that he is the ruler of earth, a horse was sent around the earth along with the army of all his sons to complete the journey\u00a0uninterrupted\u00a0, the king of\u00a0heaven King Indra felt if the horse takes the full round of earth and yagna is performed the King Sagar will be the threat to his kingdom , he catch hold of horse and tied it in <strong>the ashram of \u00a0Rishi (Sage) Kapil<\/strong>, upon seeing the horse tied there the sons of King Sagar stormed the ashram of <strong>Rishi Kapil<\/strong> and\u00a0disturbed him in his deep meditation, T<strong>he Rishi Kaipil cursed them all<\/strong>\u00a0and as a result all burnt down to ashes. The garndson of King Sagar<strong> the Bhagirath<\/strong> worshiped Lord Brahma and pleased him to bring the Ganga from\u00a0heavens to cleanse the ashes of his\u00a0ancestors and get them liberated to Moksha\u00a0\u00a0at this place.
