The temple here is\u00a0<strong>dedicated\u00a0to Lord Shiva<\/strong> and <strong>worshiped here of his back which is conical \u00a0in shape<\/strong>. This place is\u00a0accessible from April till October , rest of the year the idol is kept and worshiped at Ukhimath near Guptkashi . Out side the main entrance there is a<strong> big stone statue of Nandi Bull<\/strong> facing the temple , upon\u00a0entering\u00a0the hall <strong>there are statues of five Pandava brothers<\/strong> , <strong>Lord Sri Krishna , Vidharba the\u00a0guard\u00a0of Lord Shiva. It is said that one who pays the visit here and bows his head is relived of Sorrows<\/strong> , it was from here onward towards the Swargarohan<strong> the Pandwa were blessed and\u00a0relived of guilt and sorrow of killing their relatives in the Mahabharata war.<\/strong><br \/>\n<div style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm7.staticflickr.com\/6034\/6247331182_501b1e52fa.jpg?resize=500%2C375\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Sri Kedarnath Temple main entrance<\/p><\/div><br \/>\n<strong>Legend<\/strong><br \/>\nThis land was once ruled by the <strong>King Kedar who is also father of Vrinda<\/strong> , she had worshiped for sixty thousand years , to\u00a0honor him this region was called as<strong> Kedarkhand<\/strong>.\u00a0It is said <strong>the \u00a0Pandu the Pandva King died here while trying to \u00a0love \u00a0Madri .<\/strong><br \/>\nWhen<strong> Bhim tried to stop the Lord Shiva<\/strong> who had\u00a0disguised as bull <strong>had a fight with mace which hit the Lord Shiva , Bhim having guilt of hurting the Lord massaged the body with Ghee , today the pilgrims follow the ritual by applying the Ghee at the triangular Jyotirlinga along with offering of Bel leaves and milk in the puja .<\/strong><br \/>\nTheir existed a temple of\u00a0Mahabharata time\u00a0before this <strong>temple was constructed \u00a0in Eight\u00a0centenary\u00a0by the Adi Shankracharya .<\/strong><br \/>\n<div style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm1.staticflickr.com\/219\/495869216_3cda43cdda.jpg?resize=500%2C333\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Adi Shankarachrya took samadhi at this place in Sri Kedarnath Dham<\/p><\/div><br \/>\n<strong>When to travel<\/strong><br \/>\nThis <strong>temple opens<\/strong> along with the other temples of Chardham on <strong>Akshya Tritiya and closes on Depawali for winters , mid June till August is monsoon period<\/strong> , there are land slides and roads blocks quite common and during this period journey is not recomended.<br \/>\n<strong>What to see<\/strong><br \/>\nThe main place is the Sri Kedarnath temple , just behind it is the<strong> Adi Shankaracharya Samadhi<\/strong> , little above at a small distance on the left side of the temple is the<strong> Bhairo temple<\/strong> . <strong>Chorbari<\/strong> is a crystal clear snow water lake about a kilometer trek from Kedarnath with\u00a0floating ice in the water. <strong>Vasuki Tal<\/strong>\u00a0 is 6 km at a height of 4150 meters in the\u00a0snow caped mountains , one can have a beautiful view of <strong>Chaukhamba peaks<\/strong> from here.<br \/>\n<strong>Where to stay<\/strong><br \/>\nThere are many guest houses and dharamshalas here but all are with basic facilities only.<br \/>\n<strong>How to reach here<\/strong><br \/>\nThere are Buses and trains available up to Hardwar or Rishikesh connections from all over India , one can also reach Dehradun by air\u00a0onward journey could be performed by buses, cars and jeeps , <strong>opening of Helicopter service is a big\u00a0relief\u00a0for old age people<\/strong> , <strong>the helicopter service is available till Kedarnath from Guptkashi ( Phata) and Dehradun\u00a0<\/strong>.
