Joshimath<\/strong> is also called the Jyotirmath<\/strong> established as one of the four main “pithas”<\/strong> by the Adi Shankaracharya<\/strong> in four different places in India the other three are Shrigeri in South<\/strong> , Puri in East<\/strong> and Dwarka in west<\/strong>. It is at a height of 1890 meters from sea on the Rishikesh – Badrinath \u00a0highway 220 km from Rishikesh<\/strong> and Badrinath<\/strong> is further 42 \u00a0km, it is situated at the confluence of river Alaknanda<\/strong> and \u00a0Dhauli Ganga<\/strong> the Vishnu Prayag. This town is also the winter seat of Sri Badrinath<\/strong> at the Vasudeva Temple,\u00a0<\/strong>other important temples are the Lord Narshimha<\/strong> the incarnation of lord Vishnu<\/strong>, the Hanumaan<\/strong> , the Gaurishankar<\/strong>, the Ganesha<\/strong>, the Nau Devi<\/strong> and the Surya<\/strong> .

\nThis place is famous for base camp for many treks , Auli<\/strong> is at 3940 meters from sea level , from Joshimath<\/strong> there is a Asia’s longest 4 km Ropeway to reach here , it\u00a0has the famous Ski slopes beautiful views of Nanda Devi peak<\/strong> , Mana<\/strong> and Kamet<\/strong> also a\u00a0close view of the peak Hathi Ghora Palki<\/strong> and behind it the Neelkanth<\/strong>. \u00a0There are many trekking routes starts from here , the Gorson<\/strong>, Tali<\/strong> and Kauri<\/strong> Pass<\/strong>, Khulara<\/strong> and\u00a0Tapovan<\/strong>.\u00a0Valley of Flowers<\/strong>\u00a0can be reached from here upto Govindghat<\/strong> by road and the trek 14 kms to Ghangharia<\/strong> and then three km trek to the Valley of Flowers<\/strong>, from Ghangharia<\/strong> the Hemkund sahib<\/strong> the famous Sikh shrine<\/strong> and a temple dedicated to Laxman<\/strong> the younger brother of Lord Ram<\/strong> is situated , it is the place where Tenth Sikh Guru Gobind Singh Ji<\/strong> meditated in his previous birth which he mentioned in his book Bichitra Natak.<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0Nanda Devi National Park<\/strong> is 24 km from here. Oldest tree in India the Kalpvriksh<\/strong> since the time of Adi Shankracharya <\/strong>is in Joshimath.
\nMost of the pilgrims stay a night at Joshimath before proceeding for Sri Badrinath , Sri Hemkund Sahib or Valley of Flowers journey and Lokpal Temple trek<\/strong>, it is a single road from here and traffic is allowed turn by turn in both direction for two hours.
