Legend is that<strong> Lord Shiva<\/strong> meditated here before leaving for <strong>Sri Kedarnath<\/strong> the<strong> Koteshwar\u00a0temple<\/strong> on the banks of <strong>Alaknanda<\/strong> are the <strong>cave<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>temples<\/strong> where the images of Lord are in natural formations of rock (Koti is 10 million, Koteshwar means God of 10 million). It is also said that <strong>the \u00a0Sati<\/strong> consort of Lord Shiva reborn as <strong>Parvati<\/strong> <strong>daughter of Himalaya<\/strong> \u00a0after she immolated her self in the Yagnakund performed by her father and she could not\u00a0tolerate\u00a0the disrespect to her husband the Lord Shiva ,<strong> Parvati\u00a0<\/strong>dedicated\u00a0herself \u00a0to be his wife again and to\u00a0achieve\u00a0this she performed Tapasya ( Penance ) here. There is a temple\u00a0dedicated to <strong>Ma Chamunda<\/strong>\u00a0 wife of<strong> lord Rudra<\/strong> is worshiped here.
