The name <strong>&#8220;Spituk&#8221;<\/strong>, meaning exemplary,\u00a0a translator,<strong> Rinchen Zangpo,<\/strong>\u00a0said that <strong>an exemplary religious community<\/strong> would develop here, thus give the name Spituk for the monastery.\u00a0It was founded by<strong> Od-de, the elder brother of Lha Lama Changchub Od<\/strong> in the 11th Century.<br \/>\n<div style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm3.staticflickr.com\/2534\/4000516314_b3dd8e9f26.jpg?resize=500%2C375\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Spituk Gompa , Monastery, Leh, Ladakh<\/p><\/div><br \/>\nIt was\u00a0originally established as<strong> Kadampa school<\/strong> \u00a0after some time the monastery started functioning under<strong> Dharmaraja Takspa Bum &#8211; Lde Lama Lhawang Lotus \u00a0<\/strong>and introduced\u00a0order of <strong>Tsongkhapa (Gelukpa)<\/strong>, today the monastery functions under the <strong>Gelukpa order<\/strong> . Three\u00a0\u00a0monasteries ,<strong> Stok<\/strong>, <strong>Sankar<\/strong> and<strong> Saboo<\/strong> are the branches of <strong>Spituk Gompa<\/strong>\u00a0all these monasteries are the successive reincarnations of <strong>Skyabsje Bakula Rinpoche<\/strong>.<br \/>\n<img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm2.staticflickr.com\/1189\/758337490_fc0b272554.jpg?resize=500%2C375\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/p>\n<dl>\n<dd>Spituk Gompa Monastery Ladakh<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<p>Dukhang \u00a0the assembly hall is the main attraction of the gompa housing a high throne, reserved for Dalai Lama. The Chapel features images of<strong> <\/strong>\u00a0two chief disciples of <strong>Tsong-kha-pa<\/strong> and<strong> Lord Buddha<\/strong>.The large statue of<strong> Shakyamuni<\/strong> draws the first glance of the visitors. To the left of <strong>Shakyamuni<\/strong> is the statue of<strong> Guru Padmasambhava<\/strong> and to the right is the statue of the <strong>goddess Tara<\/strong>.\u00a0The Gonkhang is the largest temple of the monastery and is dedicated to<strong> Kali Mata or Mahakala<\/strong> ,\u00a0\u00a0in this temple there is a <strong>Six-Armed<\/strong> form of <strong>Mahakala, the White Guardian, the Brother and Sister, Khyitra on his dog and the Goddess on her horse.<\/strong><br \/>\n<img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/travel.paintedstork.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2010\/01\/spituk_monastery_2.jpg?resize=496%2C331\" width=\"496\" height=\"331\" \/><br \/>\nSpituk Gompa has one of the fine collection of exquisite antiques such as ancient masks, thankas, antique arms and many more. There is another shrine, higher up the hill, known as <strong>the Mahakal Temple<\/strong>, dedicated to the deity of <strong>Vajrabhairava<\/strong>.
