Shanti Stupa<\/strong>\u00a0is situated at a height of 4267 meters<\/strong> overlooking the Leh city, it gives a\u00a0panoramic\u00a0view<\/strong>\u00a0of surrounding snow capped mountains<\/strong> . Situated at a distance of about 5 km\u00a0drive able\u00a0road from the Leh city or one can reach here by climbing 500 steps . The location of Shanti Stupa is such that it is visible from all over Leh city.<\/strong>
\nIt is built as a two level structure<\/strong>, a flight of stairs leads to the first level\u00a0where a\u00a0Dharmchakra<\/strong>\u00a0(as in white strip of Indian\u00a0national flag) with two deer on each side<\/strong>, features a central image of<\/strong>\u00a0Lord Buddha\u00a0in golden colour<\/strong> sitting on a platform turning the\u00a0Dharmchakra<\/strong>\u00a0wheel, the second level\u00a0depicting \u00a0the birth of\u00a0Buddha<\/strong>, defeating of devils in meditation and death of Buddha along with many small images of meditating<\/strong>\u00a0Buddha<\/strong>, all embossed in vibrant colours.<\/p>\n

A white dome\u00a0Stupa\u00a0(Chorten)<\/strong>\u00a0built on a\u00a0Changspa<\/strong>, a steep \u00a0hill, opposite the\u00a0Leh Palace<\/strong>\u00a0different in architecture \u00a0from the Ladhakhi style gives a magnificent view at\u00a0sunrise<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0sunset<\/strong>, it looks more beautiful at night illuminated in the white light. It was built by the\u00a0Ladakh<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Japanese Buddhists<\/strong>, Ladakhis offered voluntary labor<\/strong>, construction started\u00a0in 1983 and it was inaugurated in\u00a0August 1991<\/strong>\u00a0by\u00a0His Holiness The Dalai Lama<\/strong>. It was built to promote world peace and prosperity and to commemorate the\u00a02500 years of Buddhism<\/strong>.
