This village is full of<strong> Popalar trees , orchards of Walnut and Apricots<\/strong> The main attraction is a cave monastery which is visible from a far as a white speck against the vertically rising ochre hill from which it appears to hanging \u00a0out. Below this small monastery is a larger Buddhist nunnery with about a dozen residents. The village is accessible by the motorable road that branches off from the Kargil-Leh road, about 5 km before \u00a0<strong>Mulbek<\/strong>.<strong>\u00a0Shergol<\/strong> is a convenient base for an exciting 4-day trek across the mountain range into the <strong>Suru valley<\/strong><em>.<\/em>\u00a0It is also the \u00a0base for visiting\u00a0<em><strong>Urgyan-Dzong<\/strong>,<\/em>\u00a0a meditation retreat lying deep inside the mountains surrounding the <strong>Wakha River valley<\/strong>.<br \/>\n<div style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7187\/6916789735_24f42c9c28.jpg?resize=500%2C375\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Nature&#8217;s art , Rock called Mother and Child at Mulbek<\/p><\/div><br \/>\n<strong>\u00a0Wakha Rgyal <\/strong>tucked away inside the picturesque upper part of the <strong>Wakha Valley<\/strong>, up streams of Mulbek. \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<strong>Mulbek Gompa\u00a0: <\/strong>Situated<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0atop a rocky cliff,\u00a0<strong>Mulbek Gompa (monastery) dominates the valley<\/strong>. It is easy to see why in bygone times this site served as an outpost to guard the caravan route. The houses, neatly white-washed and closely stacked, are dug into the sheer face of a vertical cliff that rises high above the green valley .
