Takthok Monastery also houses the <strong>Kandshur, the 108 volumes of Buddha&#8217;s<\/strong> <strong>teachings<\/strong>.\u00a0\u00a0Behind this image is a small locked door leading to the small cave where Padme Sambhava is supposed to have lived and meditated for three years. This cave is not open to the public. The low roof of the Gompa is the stone of the cliff.<br \/>\n<div style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm7.staticflickr.com\/6207\/6095780232_0e1085f550.jpg?resize=500%2C375\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Tak Thok gompa, Monastery, Shakti village, Leh Ladakh<\/p><\/div><br \/>\nMost of the gompa consists of rooms hollowed out of the stone cliff by nature or man,\u00a0\u00a0the wooden front of the gompa is only a front for the cave ,\u00a0called<strong> Duphug ( Tu-Phuk) Lhakhang<\/strong>, is a popular pilgrimage. Buddhists visit to be blessed by dubchu, <strong>the sacred water that drips from its ceiling even in winter, when the valley freezes over.<\/strong> The main treasure is an incomplete set of 29 volumes &#8211; the title pages lettered in solid silver of\u00a0excellent\u00a0craftsmanship and text in pure gold.\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Tak-Thok\u2019s Lamas<\/strong> \u00a0have developed texts to ward off evil spirits, epidemics and curses. <strong>They perform birth and death rites, recite prayers for longevity and wealth, even make astrological predictions.<\/strong><br \/>\n<div style=\"width: 385px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm7.staticflickr.com\/6191\/6075769991_18f32a601f.jpg?resize=375%2C500\" alt=\"\" width=\"375\" height=\"500\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">One of the images in Tak Thok gompa Shakti, Leh Ladakh<\/p><\/div><br \/>\n<strong>The Rimpoche<\/strong> or head lama of Tak Thok is from Tibet and is extremely highly regarded by Ladakhis.<br \/>\nMystic dances are performed by the lamas in the guise of various divinities and legendary characters.
