This Gompa is contemporary to the Gompas at Alchi built by <strong>Lhotsava<\/strong> \u00a0 <strong>Rin-chen-bZang-Po<\/strong> in the early Eleventh\u00a0centenary\u00a0AD , it is considered to be most blessed Monastary in Ladakh and people from all over <strong>Ladakh <\/strong>come for a pilgrimage here. It is in the <strong>Khalsi \u00a0tehsil<\/strong> 65 km from Leh . One can reach by 4-5 hr. trek from Lamayuru .<br \/>\n<img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm4.staticflickr.com\/3037\/2848236723_d62872da46.jpg?resize=500%2C375\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/p>\n<dl>\n<dd>Wanla Gompa, Monastery, Ladakh<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<p>There are three main structures but the middle structure is important it is similar in design and\u00a0appearance to <strong>Sumtsek of Alchi\u00a0<\/strong>, the windowless lower level is ventilated through a cut out hole in the middle of roof , the flat mud roof is supported by\u00a0centrally\u00a0placed wooden pillars with cross sections of\u00a0columns on top. The upper levels are having small windows to provide light and ventilation in the rooms. One of the three building is actually tucked into a rock , it is a double story with stone base to give stability to the structure , rooms are in a line and can be reached by stairs, there is a balcony supported by a wooden frame. \u00a0the entire structure, wall paintings, decorations, woodcraft, subject and theme \u00a0are similar to that of Alchi.<br \/>\n<div style=\"width: 385px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm7.staticflickr.com\/6157\/6243843080_7a912fdfed.jpg?resize=375%2C500\" alt=\"\" width=\"375\" height=\"500\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Main Door to the Wanla Gompa Ladakh<\/p><\/div><br \/>\nIt is one of the 108 Monasteries constructed during the 958-1055 AD under the patronage from King of Ladakh under the supervision of<strong> Lama Rinchen Zangpo<\/strong> .\u00a0They were at some stage taken over by the <strong>Ka-dam-pa<\/strong>, and when it fell into decline they were taken over again, this time mostly by<strong> the Ge-lugs-pa.<\/strong><br \/>\nThree storeys<strong> Avalokitesvara temple<\/strong> is one of the earliest known<strong> Drigung Kagyu prayer chambers<\/strong> still active in Ladakh , \u00a0image of<strong> Chovo-je-Paldan Atisha<\/strong> can also be seen in the monastery.<strong>Wanla<\/strong><strong> is a sub Monastery of Lamayuru<\/strong> , a caretaker Monk from Lamayuru takes care of daily rituals in the monastery.
