his\u00a0former\u00a0companions (<strong> Kaundinya<\/strong>, <strong>Bashpa<\/strong>, <strong>Bhadrika<\/strong>, <strong>Mahanaman<\/strong> and <strong>Ashvajit<\/strong>)\u00a0\u00a0to teach them the <strong>Dharma<\/strong> , before reaching <strong>Sarnath<\/strong> he had to use his yoga powers to cross <strong>the river Ganges<\/strong> as he had nothing to pay for to travel by boat, upon hearing this the <strong>Mauryan King<\/strong> <strong>Bimbisara\u00a0<\/strong>abolished\u00a0the toll for <strong>Ascetics<\/strong> .<br \/>\n<div style=\"width: 343px\" class=\"wp-caption \/>\nThe first sermon <strong>Dhammacakkappavattana Sutta\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0Lord Buddha gave to \u00a0five monks on a Full Moon day of <strong>Asalah<\/strong> and spend his first rainy season here ,<strong> the Sangha<\/strong> after the joining of<strong> Yasa<\/strong> and his friends grew to 60 in numbers , Lord Buddha directed them to travel alone in all direction \u00a0to spread his Buddhism\u00a0centenaries\u00a0after Lord Buddha , In second\u00a0Centenary BC, twelve thousand monks were present under the <strong>Chief Monk\u00a0\u00a0Dhammasena<\/strong> at the foundation ceremony of <strong>Maha Thupa at Anuradhapur<\/strong> , when Chinese\u00a0traveler\u00a0<strong>Xuanzan<\/strong>g visited he saw \u00a0fifteen hundred monks studying<strong> the\u00a0Hinayana<\/strong> at the <strong>Vihara<\/strong> where there was life size \u00a0statue of Lord Buddha turning <strong>the wheel of Law<\/strong> , in third\u00a0centenary <strong>Varanasi<\/strong> was a\u00a0flourishing rich city where King and merchants were wealthy it was at its peak in sixth and seventh\u00a0centenary , the Chinese\u00a0traveler <strong>Xuan Zang<\/strong> recorded <strong>30\u00a0monasteries<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0\u00a0<strong>three thousand monks<\/strong> living at <strong>Sarnath<\/strong> .<br \/>\n<strong>Sarnath<\/strong> was the major\u00a0center of\u00a0learning\u00a0of\u00a0<strong>\u00a0Sammatiya School of Buddhism<\/strong> the early Buddhist School , <strong>the Vajrayana<\/strong> <strong>Buddhism<\/strong> was practiced \u00a0as the images of Tara and Heruka are discovered here , along with Buddhist images the Hindu Gods Lord Shiva and Lord Bhrama are also discovered , there is also a Jain temple near the stupa.<br \/>\nIn <strong>12th\u00a0centenary the Turkish Muslim invaders<\/strong> plundered the buildings , this place was\u00a0rediscovered\u00a0by British archaeologist \u00a0 <strong>Alaxander
