{"id":2717,"date":"2014-09-17T09:45:56","date_gmt":"2014-09-17T04:15:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/promarktravels.com\/blog\/?p=2717"},"modified":"2014-09-17T09:45:56","modified_gmt":"2014-09-17T04:15:56","slug":"orcha-fort-an","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/promarktravels.com\/blog\/2014\/09\/orcha-fort-an\/","title":{"rendered":"Orcha, Fort and Palace"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Orcha<\/strong>\u00a0a small sleepy town on the banks of river<b>\u00a0<\/b><strong>Betwa<\/strong>\u00a0but it was once the capital of the mighty<b>\u00a0<\/b><strong>Bundelkhand \u00a0State of Madhya Pradesh .<\/strong><br \/>\n<div style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm6.staticflickr.com\/5477\/14332524249_25da0b4dc1.jpg?resize=500%2C333&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Orcha , Madhya Pradesh<\/p><\/div><br \/>\n<span style=\"line-height: 1.5em\">Founded by the\u00a0<\/span><strong style=\"line-height: 1.5em\">King\u00a0Rudra Pratap Singh<\/strong><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em\">, a\u00a0<\/span><strong style=\"line-height: 1.5em\">Rajput ruler of Bundelkhand ,\u00a0<\/strong><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em\">was<\/span><strong style=\"line-height: 1.5em\"> the first king of Orcha<\/strong><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em\"> and built the Fort in 1501 AD ,\u00a0\u00a0a warrior tribe, whose \u00a0ancestors \u00a0one young\u00a0<\/span><strong style=\"line-height: 1.5em\">Rajput<\/strong><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em\">\u00a0prince \u00a0sacrificed his life for a \u00a0Goddess,\u00a0<\/span><strong style=\"line-height: 1.5em\">Vrindavasini<\/strong><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em\">, in return, the Goddess blessed \u00a0that he and all his descendants would come to be known as the<\/span><b style=\"line-height: 1.5em\">\u00a0<\/b><strong style=\"line-height: 1.5em\">&#8216;Bundelas&#8217;<\/strong><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em\">, meaning,<\/span><b style=\"line-height: 1.5em\">\u00a0<\/b><strong style=\"line-height: 1.5em\">&#8216;those who gave blood&#8217;<\/strong><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em\">\u00a0 \u00a0the\u00a0<\/span><strong style=\"line-height: 1.5em\">Orchha Bundelas<\/strong><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em\">\u00a0came to be known as the chief of the<\/span><b style=\"line-height: 1.5em\">\u00a0<\/b><strong style=\"line-height: 1.5em\">Bundela clan<\/strong><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em\">.<\/span><br \/>\n<div style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm3.staticflickr.com\/2935\/14496013666_76713e169f.jpg?resize=500%2C333&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Orcha Fort &amp; Palace<\/p><\/div><br \/>\nThe succeeding rulers, the most notable was\u00a0<strong>Raja Bir Singh Ju Deo<\/strong>\u00a0who built the exquisite<b>\u00a0<\/b><strong>Jehangir Mahal<\/strong>, in the 17th century, to celebrate the visit of\u00a0<strong>Emperor Jehangir<\/strong>\u00a0to\u00a0<b>Orcha,\u00a0<\/b>\u00a0a tiered palace crowned by graceful Chhatris. The whole Mahal is decorated beautifully with different geometric patterns and paintings of <strong>peacocks and flowers<\/strong> which represent the finest flowering of the <strong>Bundela school of painting<\/strong>.\u00a0From here the view of soaring temple spires and cenotaphs is spectacular. \u00a0the mother of <strong>Jahangir<\/strong> was also a <strong>Rajput, Jodha<\/strong>. It is with this in mind that the Rajput king of Orcha had built the\u00a0<strong>Jahangir Mahal<\/strong>.<br \/>\n<div style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm4.staticflickr.com\/3923\/14519115315_4cd63d8007.jpg?resize=500%2C333&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ceiling Paintings Raja Mahal Orcha<\/p><\/div><br \/>\n<strong>The Durbar-e-Khas<\/strong>, or the Durbar Hall, is situated on the first floor of the palace and is surrounded by high battlement walls. It is well fortified, and right above it are a number of musket holes through which the enemy was shot at.<strong> The Diwan-i-Am<\/strong> is an assembly hall where the king often held meetings with his council of ministers.<br \/>\n<div style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm4.staticflickr.com\/3910\/14332512289_cb12ea0d91.jpg?resize=500%2C333&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Jahangir Mahal Orcha<\/p><\/div><br \/>\n<strong>Rani Mahal<\/strong> \u00a0is famous for its lovely paintings and unique architecture. <strong>Rani Mahal<\/strong>, was the royal residence of the<strong> Queen of Raja Madhukar Shah<\/strong>. A great devotee of<strong> Lord Ram<\/strong>, the queen decorated her bedroom with murals featuring scenes from the epics. The exquisite paintings of<strong> Bhim and a bird flying with elephants<\/strong> are really fantastic.<br \/>\n<div style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm4.staticflickr.com\/3915\/14332537648_e16a7cb6d4.jpg?resize=500%2C333&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Wall and ceiling paintings Orcha<\/p><\/div><br \/>\n<strong>The Rai Praveen Palace<\/strong>\u00a0was constructed by<strong> Prince Indrajit Singh<\/strong> for his beloved \u00a0of three stories. The walls of the central hall on the second story bear many paintings depicting the several moods of the<strong> Rai Praveen<\/strong>. The palace is combined with a garden divided into two parts wall and which is popularly known as<strong> Anand Mahal Bag (Garden)<\/strong>. The<strong> Rai Praveen<\/strong> was a great beauty whose main accomplishments were dancing, horse riding and poetry. The famous poet<strong> Keshavdas<\/strong> has compiled <strong>Kavi priya<\/strong> to honor<strong> Rai Praveen<\/strong> and praised her beauty.<br \/>\nIn the<b>\u00a0<\/b><strong>Laxminarayan Temple<\/strong>\u00a0and<b>\u00a0<\/b><strong>Raj Mahal<\/strong>, vibrant murals encompassing a variety of religious and secular themes, bring the walls and ceilings to rich life.\u00a0Long tapering structures of temples and places act as the major landmark of this small town .<br \/>\n<strong>Raja Rudra Pratap<\/strong>\u00a0started the work on\u00a0<strong>Raja Mahal<\/strong>\u00a0but after his death in 1531, his son<b>\u00a0<\/b><strong>Bharath Chand<\/strong>\u00a0did the main portion of the palace but it was completed<b>\u00a0<\/b><strong>Raja\u00a0\u00a0Madhukar Shah<\/strong>\u00a0,\u00a0one of the finest examples of\u00a0<strong>Mughal architecture<\/strong>. It has the typical\u00a0<strong>\u201cjali\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0or\u00a0<strong>lattice<\/strong>\u00a0work at the entrance ,\u00a0a square shaped palace, divided into two beautiful courtyards.
