City was established by the fourth <strong>Sikh Guru Ram Dass Ji<\/strong> by purchasing the land from the residents of the <strong>village Tung<\/strong> in 1574 AD The area around<strong> Amritsar<\/strong> has<strong>\u00a0the legend of Ramayana<\/strong> associated with it , <strong>\u00a0Rishi Balmiki&#8217;s<\/strong> ashram was here , the <strong>Devi Sita<\/strong> the <strong>Lord Rams<\/strong> wife \u00a0lived in exile and gave \u00a0birth <strong>twin sons<\/strong> \u00a0<strong>Lavh<\/strong> and <strong>Kush<\/strong>. It is said when <strong>the twin brothers\u00a0<\/strong> killed the entire \u00a0army of <strong>Lord Ram<\/strong> ,\u00a0at that time a jug of Ambrosia descended from heaven to restore the soldiers to life.<br \/>\n<div style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm3.staticflickr.com\/2840\/12047181545_45272f0216.jpg?resize=500%2C375\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">First view of Darbar Sahib from Eastern Gate, Amritsar<\/p><\/div><br \/>\nIt was in<strong> 1574 A.D. Guru Ram Das Ji<\/strong> made his home by the side of the pool, finding the air and water of his abode health-giving\u00a0\u00a0which was regarded as blessed with miraculous powers of healing and<strong> in 1577 AD.holy tank was excavated and named it<\/strong> <strong>Amritsar<\/strong> and the present city grew around it .<strong> The Fifth Guru Arjan Dev Ji<\/strong> conceived the idea of construction of the Gurudwara in the center of the pool,<strong> he himself designed and laid the foundation stone in late 1588<\/strong> \u00a0, it has four entrances symbolizing it open for all , it was <strong>completed in 1604 AD and Guru Granth Sahib was installed<\/strong> in it .\u00a0After this event it attained the status of <strong>\u2018Ath Sath Tirath\u2019 and\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0the Sikh community had their own <strong>Tirath<\/strong>, a pilgrimage center .<br \/>\n<div style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm3.staticflickr.com\/2893\/12117522794_aa98c3729a.jpg?resize=500%2C375\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Darshani Deori , main entrance to the Harmandir Sahib<\/p><\/div><br \/>\nThe present <strong>\u00a0Harmandir Sahib was rebuilt in 1764 by the Jassa Singh Ahluwalia<\/strong> later <strong>\u00a0the founder of Kapurthala State<\/strong> in Punjab , it is said he in a battle with <strong>Afghans in 1762 \u00a0(Wadha Gulughara)<\/strong> who had destroyed<strong> Harmandir Sahib<\/strong>, \u00a0received Sixty Four wounds .<br \/>\n<div style=\"width: 385px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm4.staticflickr.com\/3809\/12048039716_004ca64247.jpg?resize=375%2C500\" alt=\"\" width=\"375\" height=\"500\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Nishan Sahib ( Flag)<\/p><\/div><br \/>\nThe Gold plating and marble work was carried out in 19 centenary under the patronage of<strong> Maharaja Ranjit Singh<\/strong> <strong>Ji<\/strong> and <strong>Sardar\u00a0Hukam Singh Chimni\u00a0<\/strong>who happened to be member and speaker of Parliament and then the Governor of Rajasthan state.<br \/>\nArchitecture of<strong> Harimandir Sahib<\/strong> is a unique harmony between the Muslims and the Hindus way of construction work .
