Nageshvara \u00a0Mahadev<\/strong> or Nagnath temple<\/strong> is \u00a0about 12 km from \u00a0Dwarka<\/strong> on road to \u00a0Bet Dwarka<\/strong> , it\u00a0\u00a0is one of the 12 Jyotirlingams<\/strong> while other 11 are situated in the other parts of \u00a0India . It is the first Joyotirlinam on the earth<\/strong> . There are two more Jyotirlings<\/strong> with same name as the place described in the Vamana<\/strong>\u00a0Puran \u00a0and Shiva Puran (old texts ) the Daruka Vana<\/strong> means the forest of Deodar Trees<\/strong>\u00a0which grows at a height of 2000 mtrs. and above in Himalayas\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0suppose\u00a0to be\u00a0a place called Jageshwar in Uttrakhand . <\/strong>The second place is Anudha in Satpura Hills of\u00a0Maharashtra state\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>
\nLegend about the discovery of this place is, during their Vanavasa<\/strong> period Pandavas<\/strong> reached this place and they saw \u00a0a cow flows its milk every day from its fodder into a lake on its own volition. The Pandavas doubted a divine presence , all five brothers \u00a0emptied the water from the lake and started \u00a0digging \u00a0it. To their surprise a Shiva Lingam<\/strong> emerged out of it and they constructed a temple here , the present temple is a new structure over the old one .
\nLegend according to Shiv Purana<\/strong>, a devotee of Lord Shiva<\/strong> ,\u00a0Supriya<\/b>\u00a0 a merchant while travelling \u00a0in a boat was attacked by a demon\u00a0Daaruka<\/b>. The demon imprisoned him along with others at \u00a0Daarukaavana<\/strong>\u00a0. Supriya<\/strong> advised all prisoners to recite the mantra \u2018Aum Namaha Shivaya\u2019.<\/strong> When Daruk<\/strong> came to know about it \u00a0he wanted to kill Supriya , <\/strong>at same time\u00a0\u00a0Lord Shiva<\/strong> appeared in the form of a Jyotirlingam<\/strong> and killed \u00a0the demon Daruk<\/strong> \u00a0with the Paasupata Astram<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

There is one more legend associated with the \u00a0position of Shivalingam<\/strong> and Gomugam ,\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0a devotee named \u00a0Naamdev<\/strong> was in front of the Lord singing the devotional songs , other devotees wanted him to move away from in front of \u00a0Shivalingam as his body is hiding the view of Lord ,\u00a0Naamdev<\/strong> asked them to suggest one place \u00a0in which the Lord<\/strong> does not exist , the angry devotees carried him out of the temple and and left him on the South side<\/strong> , when they returned to\u00a0their surprise , they found that the Lingam was now facing South with the Gomugam facing east.<\/strong>
