{"id":3223,"date":"2016-04-20T10:00:50","date_gmt":"2016-04-20T04:30:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/promarktravels.com\/blog\/?p=3223"},"modified":"2016-04-20T10:00:50","modified_gmt":"2016-04-20T04:30:50","slug":"chausath-yogini-temple-morena-gwalior","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/promarktravels.com\/blog\/2016\/04\/chausath-yogini-temple-morena-gwalior\/","title":{"rendered":"Chausath Yogini Temple , Morena ,Gwalior"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Built by the Pratihara ruler Maharaj Devapal<\/strong> in the <strong>year 1323 AD<\/strong> as per the inscription found here , \u00a0circular temple, built \u00a0over a rock hill , using <strong>red and brown-colored\u00a0sandstone<\/strong> \u00a0found abundantly in this area .<strong>\u00a0the British architect Sir Edwin Lutyens and Sir Herbert Baker who designed the Parliament House in 1927, found his inspiration in the temple.<\/strong>\u00a0Once a well-known <strong>tantric \u00a0center<\/strong> and some people still perform <strong>tantric<\/strong>\u00a0 rituals\u00a0, this place is situated in dry rocky region ,\u00a0located in<strong> Rithora area of \u00a0Morena Distt<\/strong>. about 45 km from<strong> Gwalior<\/strong> ,<br \/>\n<div style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm4.staticflickr.com\/3902\/15123499036_5bf1e79ec4.jpg?resize=500%2C333&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Chaushath Yogini Mandir , Morena , Gwalior<\/p><\/div><br \/>\nA circular structure of<strong> 170 ft radius atop a 100 ft mount<\/strong>, One needs to trek by about 200 steps\u00a0to reach the temple, the path is very well maintained.\u00a0\u00a0The<strong> temple has 64 (Chausath) rooms<\/strong> and a big courtyard.\u00a0There is only one small <strong>entrance from East<\/strong> , after entering there is a corridor on left and right side , to reach the central platform there is flight of stairs again on the East direction.<br \/>\n<div style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm4.staticflickr.com\/3923\/14959809039_56925dd230.jpg?resize=500%2C333&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Central Platform Chaushath Yogini Mandir , Gwalior<\/p><\/div><br \/>\nIn the circular courtyard there is a <strong>corridor supported by stone pillars<\/strong> one side open space and other side is a row of small 64 rooms with a flat roof , in the center there is a pillared stage with a flat roof , it appears that there were shikhars over all the rooms and the central stage ,\u00a0there are four pedestals found with the <strong>names of the Yoginis<\/strong> mentioned on them which<strong> confirms it is a Yogini Temple.<\/strong><br \/>\n<div style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm4.staticflickr.com\/3909\/15123506706_33b5b8cda8.jpg?resize=500%2C333&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Corridor Chaushath Yogini Temple , Gwalior<\/p><\/div><br \/>\nThere was a time when each chamber \u00a0had an idol of Yogini accompanying Shiva.
